Quilts of Valor

Several "Quilts of Valor" were returned yesterday: Karen C.; Sherryl D.; Kay S. and sisters Penny B. and Lori V. did a GREAT job.

I've been sick the last three weeks so I use that as my excuse for not getting a picture of Sherryl D.'s finished quilt.  Sorry, Sherryl.  I'll try to get a picture posted soon.

Here's pictures of their masterpieces we'll donate to this wonderful organization:

Karen's "Pinwheels" quilt.  The next step is to get it quilted!

Kay's "Diamonds" quilt.

Lori V's "Hourglass" quilt.

Sandy, Gitta and Jacey's stuff

Sandy V. has been busy making pillowcases...again.... and.....she made a tote with the leftovers!

Notice the "butterflies on cream" accent pieces on her projects.  It's from 108" backing fabric she's used on several quilts.

tote Sandy made using leftover fabric from making pillowcases!
How cute is this?

Gitta V. emailed pictures of her latest projects.  Three quilts she made for very different reasons:

Gitta made this quilt from a friend's late Grandfather's clothes for a memory quilt.  Gitta's friend then gave the quilt to her Grandmother as a birthday present.

What a precious way to be surrounded by someone that's passed.

Gitta made this t-shirt quilt as a fundraiser for the "Kiss a Pig Gala" in Northwest Arkansas.  All the money raised goes to the American Diabetes Association.  How cute is this?

Great job, Gitta.  Love the ragging on this quilt.

Gitta made this quilt from old sweaters.  Wow!  I bet it's really warm!

Thirteen year old Jacey dropped by yesterday to show us her very first quilt (you might remember Jacey from the December 8th post of her first project EVER of the handkerchief pillow she made).

Jacey made this quilt for her bed. She said it was "a lot of fun" to make and "wants to make more".  She decided to tie her quilt so she could start using it immediately!

We're so proud of you, Jacey!  You did a great job. We can't wait to see what you make in the future.

Quilts of Valor

My nephew, Nathan, was injured in Afghanistan last year. As a result, we started making "Quilts of Valor" in January for soldiers.  The Quilts of Valor Foundation (www.qovf.org) will give away their 100,000th quilt sometime this year.

Some of our customers have been inspired to make their own quilts for friends or family who have served our country.

Vicki W. made this "Quilt of Valor" for her friend who just returned from Afghanistan.  This is the picture of Col. Schreffler and his wife, Julie with the quilt Vicki made for him.

What a wonderful way to say "Thanks".  Great job, Vicki and "Thank You" to Col. Schreffler for serving the greatest nation on earth.

This is a "Quilt of Valor" Sandy V. made for a female soldier which she's donating to the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

We love the butterfly backing and the matching presentation case.  Great job, Sandy! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this quilt.

Knitting class, quilts, new stuff and "Show and Tell"

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love Saturdays.  Our customers bring in their projects for "Show and Tell" and everyone gets inspired. Yesterday was a constant flow of new projects, completed projects and 'just learning how to" projects!

Vicki W. brought in this quilt she made using a pattern from "Quilt in A Day" by Eleanor Burns.   Vicki used "Kansas Troubles" fabrics so we (of course) LOVE it. Penny B. in Illinois quilted it.  Great job, Vicki and Penny!

This is Vicki's quilt she made using a "Quilt in a Day" pattern by Eleanor Burns and Kansas Troubles fabrics.

Vicki W. also made this top.  It's a wedding present for her nephew using "Hubba Bubba" charm packs.   Vicki was shopping for border fabric so, we'll get more pictures when it's finished!

Vickie B. brought in her top to share with us.  I can't remember which pattern she used but we love the stair steps affect that gives this quilt it's movement.

This is last week's new fabrics.  I was running behind and didn't get pictures posted last weekend. OOPS!
Pat and I tried a different way of displaying these to take pictures so, I hope you can see the prints.

some of last week's new stuff
It's not lions and tigers and bears, it's coffee cups, flowers and quilts....oh my!

three bolts of "Out of Africa"  by Robert Kaufman,

I decided to put some of the new stuff in the chair so you can see the prints a little bit better.

Old sewing machines and thimbles! Love it!

If you have the "3 Times the Charm" book, this is the second book in that series, "3 Times the Charm, Book 2".  Now that's a catchy title!  This book has 21 different patterns using charm packs and is a great addition to any quilter's library.

Three Times the Charm, Book 2.

a new color of Aurifil thread.  We love Aurifil.  It's Egyptian cotton, made in Italy and 1422 yards per spool.

"Catalina" batik layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls.

Pat and I decided to flip the jelly rolls around to see all the colors.  These are "Catalina" batiks by Moda

"Snowbird" batiks by Laundry Basket Quilts for Moda:  jelly rolls and charm packs.

"ABC Menagerie" by Abi Hall for Moda: layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls

Pat's made this top using one batik jelly roll and the "Strip Tube Ruler". This top is stunning in person.

Cathy C's "Scrap Crazy" top she made using "Potluck" fabrics and "Scrap Crazy" templates.

we finally got Cathy's quilts on the wall.  This one is called "Square Dance" from the Winter 2013 issue of  "Quilting Quickly" magazine.

The last class of "Beginning Knitting" was yesterday. I asked the students to bring their project to the shop for "Show and Tell".

Janet H. made this cute hat and scarf set and Virginia also decided to make a scarf.  Great job ladies!

Thanks, Shawn for being a great teacher!  We'll offer this class again in the fall so, stay tuned!

Camera shy Virginia started this red scarf in Shawn's "Beginning Knitting" class.

Sweetness put Sherry's "Spare Change" top on the wall for all to see!  This uses a charm pack and set of Moda candy charms (mini-charms) with the "Spare Change" ruler by Kansas Troubles.....please remember to remove the brown paper from the ruler before using!

This is a table runner Cheryl W. made using a Squedge ruler and one batik jelly roll.  We finally found a place to display it and hope you can see all the gorgeous Scolors.

Sherry L. and her embroidery machine have been very busy!  She made this potholder  ("Death before Decaf") and chap stick holder.  How cute are these!

Quilts, bags and pillowcases, oh my!

Karen's 'Zipper" quilt
Karen B. emailed these pictures of her projects.

This is her "zipper" quilt. We love how to colors pop against the black.  Wow! The border fabric is yummy!

This is Karen's tote.  Love the pattern, love the colors, but we REALLY love the piece of furniture it's hanging on!

this is the colorful tote Karen made.  We love the chest it's hanging on.

Karen made this "Quilt of Valor" for her son-in-law. The pattern is from the January/February 2013 issue of "Love of Quilting" by Fons and Porter.  This quilt is stunning.  Wow!  Great job, Karen. Thanks for sending the pictures.

Karla K. brought in her "Rain Bonnet Sue" paper piecing project she made (then quilted on her long arm).  I hope my camera picked up just how small each of these blocks are. The second picture is the back of her project.

Debbie C. brought in the Midi bag she recently made. Great job, Debbie!.

My friend Sandy in IL (aka the "Over Achiever") emailed pictures of pillowcases she made using fabrics from the shop.  The first six sets use prints from the "Cherry on Top" collection and vintage/reproductions prints.

The second six sets are all Kansas Troubles fabrics.   GREAT JOB, SANDY!  Keep up the good work!
