Show and Tell at the shop

Patricia and Tiffany brought in projects for Show and Tell yesterday.   

Patricia made two baby quilts using double sided/quilted fabric with matching pillowcases for each quilt.  They are so cute!  

Tiffany brought back the lap quilt she's making for her husband.  She'd added the borders and decided to use a tan solid for the backing. I asked her to bring it back when it's quilted so I can take more pictures and post to the blog!

Vicki's projects

Vicki W. emailed pictures of the projects she's been working on.  The tractor quilt is for her Dad.  The table runner is made using a Kansas Troubles charm pack. Great job, Vicki!

Sweetness was trying a new recipe for dinner tonight. Apparently he was flinging flour all over the place when Duke got a little too close.  By the time I was able to grab my camera, the girls had given him a "bath".  He had been covered with flour from head to  toe (tail), this is what's left.  That's life at our house!

"Quilting Quickly", "Sweet Pea", "Old Glory Gatherings" and Vin du Jour

We received Jenny Doan's magazine, "Quilting Quickly" this week.  We have the Summer and Fall issues (the premiere issue is sold out) which are full of really pretty (and fast) projects.  We signed up for auto-ship so we'll get new issues as they're released.  

The Summer issue has 17 projects, the Fall issue has 19 projects of fun!  We're so excited to have her magazine in the shop.  

Another bolt of "Old Glory Gatherings" arrived this week.  This red is a little lighter than the other reds we have from this line.  This isn't the greatest picture but it gives you an idea of the print.  

The "Sweet Pea" pre-cuts by Kansas Troubles arrived this week:  layer cakes, jelly rolls, charm packs, mini charms, fat quarter bundles and fat eighth bundles. Just in time for one of Jenny's quilts in her new magazine!!!  

We now have the Vin du Jour honeycombs by 3 Sisters.  We previously received the other pre-cuts so now the entire family is here!  This print reminds me of French country.  So cute.

Tiffany D. brought in the quilt she's making for her husband.  She used a Kansas Troubles charm pack but needed something for the border and backing. Tiffany is just beginning her quilting addiction!  I asked her to bring it back when she got the borders on.

more new stuff

We were closed for Labor Day weekend but the freight kept coming in!   

We received two "Over The Rainbow" batiks:  Pine and Ocean View (who comes up with these names?). The Ocean View batik was like looking at the bottom of the ocean when Sweetness took me to Cozumel for our 10th anniversary.  The only thing missing is a brightly colored fish swimming by now and then!  The likeness really is stunning.  

We also received "Vin du Jour" by 3 Sisters for Moda. These pre-cuts have a French Country theme.  

"Morris Modernized" by Barbara Brackman has rich blue hues with contrasting prints.  She has a way with color that I'm envious of!  

"Wish You Were Here" by Holly Taylor reminds me that fall is just around the corner.  If you love leaves and fall colors, you'll love these pre-cuts.  

"Potluck" by American Jane is so cute.  We haven't received the layer cakes yet but did receive the jelly rolls, charm packs and mini-charms.

Patricia L. brought in the quilt she made for her yet-to-be-born granddaughter.  It's bigger than king size! Wow!  That should be big enough for a baby quilt! The Sunbonnet Sue is so cute!  Great job, Patricia!  

This gentleman dropped by yesterday with one of his many crocheted shawls (when he was here the last time, I asked him to bring in something he crocheted so I could put it on the blog).  His latest creation is this beautiful pink and maroon shawl.  He said he gives away everything he makes.  

Pat immediately fell in love with it so, he gave it to her.  Unfortunately, I did't get his name so we'll call him "Crochet Man" until I find out what his name really is!

Labor Day Weekend-part 2

Everyone knows I have poor impulse control when it comes to anything quilting related! The "Old Glory Gatherings" fabric by Primitive Gatherings really speaks to me.  We received four more bolts this week. I love this entire collection (and they're great for making Quilts of Valor).   

We don't carry a lot of holiday specific fabrics, especially Christmas fabric.  We bought several bolts of Kansas Troubles fabric that arrived this week. These prints can be used for any occasion because, in my opinion, they don't scream "Christmas" (plus the fact that I'm a Kansas Troubles junkie)! 

Moda just released "Bella Solids" charm packs and mini-charms.  For some reason there are 30 pieces instead of the usual 42 (at least they're both cheaper than regular charm packs and mini-charms).  We have both pre-cuts in the shop.  

We received another bolt of "Over the Rainbow" batiks. This one is called "Misty Blue".  It has a lot of movement and the colors are very striking.   

Another new product Moda just released is "Muslin Mates" pre-cuts:  Layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls.  They are mostly tone-on-tone but also have some prints.  

We also received "Texas Lone Star" pre-cuts:  layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls.  If you love Texas (or have a Texan among you), you'll love these pre-cuts!

Labor Day Weekend 2013 newsletter

FALL SHOP HOP:  October 4^th and 5^th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  (Yes, we’ll be open both days!)

NEW HOURS: EVERY Saturday (closed Memorial Day, August 31^st, and December 28^th)

HOURS: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Before I forget:  Pat, Nola and Shirley brought in quilts for “Show and Tell” last Saturday.  Sherry brought in several projects a couple of weeks ago.  I’d left my camera in Texas so I wasn’t able to take pictures.  Rosemary was kind enough to take pictures of Sherry’s projects with her cell phone and emailed them to me.  I can’t figure out how to rotate Rosemary’s pictures so you’ll need to turn your head to look at them!  I’ve posted pictures of everyone’s stuff on the blog. 

I failed to mention in the last newsletter:  Cheryl’s trunk show on September 28^th is free.  We just need to know which show you’re attending (10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.) so we know how many bodies to plan for!  Please call, email or stop by so I can get an accurate count! 

Karla’s “Paper Piecing” class on September 14^th has been scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This is a great technique and not too difficult to learn.  We had a great time learning a new technique and know you will too.    

The UPS man has been here several times this week.  I love seeing that big brown truck pull in the driveway!  Here’s what came in so far this week: 

·         “Texas Lone Star” jelly rolls, charm packs and mini charms.  These are by designer Sarah Khammash for Moda.  If you love all things Texas, you’ll love these pre-cuts!  They’re so cute

·         several more bolts of “Old Glory Gatherings” by Primitive Gatherings for Moda.  We decided to get more of this collection before it’s all gone, never to be found again, anywhere! 

·         “Over the Rainbow” batiks in Misty Blue! 

·         “Bella Solids” charm packs and mini charms—the mini charms are so stinkin’ cute! 

·         Eleven bolts of “you-could-use-this-for-a-Christmas-project” fabrics.  We don’t carry a lot of holiday specific fabrics, particularly Christmas fabric.  This year I decided to jump in the deep end…….we bought several bolts of fabric that COULD be used for a Christmas project but isn’t holiday specific for Christmas.  Does that make any sense?  You’ll know what I’m talking about when I get pictures of it posted on the blog, hopefully before this weekend. 

·         “Muslin Mates” layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls.  These are brand spanking new pre-cuts from Moda.  I’m very happy to get these.  I can’t wait to see what someone makes using them.  

P-Dub’s Calendar of Events:

Every Saturday:  “Sit-N-Sew” at the shop.  We have two new Bernina sewing machines for you to use when you come for Sit-N-Sew.  That keeps you from lugging your heavy sewing machine to the shop.  Sit-N-Sew is always free and is a lot of fun (we actually get some projects completed in between the talking, laughing and eating!).  There’s no need to let us know if you’re coming, just show up and plan on having a good time while you’re here.  On occasion, Sweetness has been known to cook lunch for all Sit-N-Sew-ers. 

August 31st:  the shop will be closed for Labor Day weekend

September 1^st:  The “Fall Shop Hop” shop owners are getting together to put the finishing touches on our little bundle of joy!  As soon as flyers are available, I’ll post it on the blog

September 14^th:  Karla K. will be teaching “Paper Piecing” from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Please let me know if you want to take Karla’s class.  A supplies list will be provided at registration. 

September 21^st:  “Strip Tube Ruler “class from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The Strip Tube Ruler is a hoot to use!  Once you start using it, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities!  A supplies list will be provided at registration. 

September 21^st and 22^nd:  “Patchwork of Memories” quilt show by the Discovery Quilters in Shell Knob will be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, the 22^nd at the Shell Knob elementary school.  Admission is $3.00 for both days. 

September 28^th:  Cheryl W. will have a free trunk show at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. demonstrating the AccuQuilt Go! Cutter and dies. If you’ve ever wondered how the Go! Cutter works and the beautiful quilts you can make using it, now is the time to find out. Cheryl is bringing lots of quilts she made using her Go! Cutter.  Don’t forget:  if you buy a Go! Cutter from us, you’ll receive a lifetime 15% discount on the mats and dies.  **Please let me know which trunk show you would like to attend (10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.) so we’ll have enough room for everyone.  Each trunk show will last approximately one hour. 

October 4^th and 5^th:  Fall Shop Hop from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The participating shops are “The Quilted Garden” in Aurora, “The Thistle Fabric Shop” in Pierce City and our shop.  Purchase a starter kit for $3 at each shop, get some great discounts on fabric and help out a local charity. 

October 12^th:  “Twister” class from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This wonderful devise will change your life in a positive way!  We have three sizes of Twister as well as two smaller versions by Primitive Gatherings.  

October 19^th:  “Beginning Quilting—part one” 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  If you want to learn how to quilt but are afraid to try, this class is for you (there will be three sessions, three hours each).  A supplies list will be provided at registration. 

October 26^th:  “Beginning Quilting—part two” 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

November 1st:  deadline for bringing back finished Shop Hop block

November 2^nd:  “Beginning Quilting—part three” from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Sometime in November:  help Melba celebrate her 80^th birthday.  The time and date are yet to be determined so….stay tuned. 

Also (sometime) in November:  “Sweet Pea” by Kansas Troubles Quilters will be here.  We ordered the entire collection including all the pre-cuts (including honey buns and fat quarter/fat eighth bundles).  I don’t have the slightest idea where we’re going to put that much fabric but I’m sure we’ll think of something!  YIPPEE!  I can’t wait. 

April 4^th and 5^th, 2014:  The Cassville guild will be having their quilt show at Crowder College in Cassville. 

The shop will be closed this Saturday for Labor Day.  Sweetness and I hope you have a safe Labor Day weekend.
