 I finally took pictures of the 108" backings we have.  These are so cool.  They both have a stencil so you can follow the line to quilt your project.  The good news is the stencil is water soluble.  Throw it in the washing machine when you're done and the lines are gone!  How cool is that?  We have these in white and natural.

Sweetness finished building the first unit for the fat quarters. It is truly a vision of beauty. He’s feverishly working on getting the second unit finished by this Saturday (it’s amazing how much space it takes to house 10,000 fat quarters). Getting the first unit installed and filled made a drastic change in the amount of available space in that part of the shop. Holy cow! I can’t wait until everything is on the walls……….everything……because you know what happens then…….……sit and sew……..sit and sew…..sit and sew………..
 

Cross your fingers the jelly rolls, layer cakes, dessert rolls, charm packs and mini charms of Pheasant Hill (by Kansas Troubles) comes in before Saturday. This is her new line of fabric that’s being released in March (the pre-cuts usually come in a couple of months ahead of the bolted fabric). I’m really looking forward to getting the dessert rolls. They are 5" wide x W.O.F., (sorta like a jelly roll only twice as wide). We’ve never had desserts rolls in the shop before so this will be a new experience for all of us! YIPPEE! I’m so excited.
 

The "Mini" Binding Tools came in. They are for making bindings less than 2" wide for miniature quilts, applique or other small projects. They’re so cute! They almost look like toys!
 

We’ve posted several new pictures on the blog. Sally in Oklahoma made her very first Jelly Roll 1600 quilt. YEAH SALLY! Sandy in Illinois (The Over Achiever) decided to make a double Jelly Roll 1600 (yes, she used two jelly rolls….3200 inches). She sent a picture of the behemoth when she got it finished. Both pics are posted on the blog so please take a look at these beautiful quilts.
 

The very-pretty-in-color-flyer for the Shop Hop is also posted on the blog. Cheryl at The Quilted Garden has a real knack for making flyers and did a great job once again. Not only is it full of all the necessary information but it’s pretty to look at!
 

I’ll try to get pictures of the new fat quarter unit, the Pheasant Hill stuff (if it comes in) and the 108" backings on the blog before Saturday.
 

Help us help you:  

we’re thinking about carrying batting on the roll so we’re taking a survey: What kind of batting would you like to see in the shop: 100% cotton, 80%/20% cotton/polyester or 100% polyester?? White, cream or black? Did you know we can get silk batting? We can also get wool batting. I bet quilts (or anything) made using the wool batting would be so heavy you couldn’t turn over in bed. You’d have to go to sleep in the position you wanted to be in all night because you couldn’t roll over….weighed down by the wool batting……….but you certainly wouldn’t get cold. Anyway, let us know your thoughts on the batting on the roll. Help us help you!

The "Jelly Roll of the Month" club is off to a good start. I’m excited about this new club.

 

 

The Super Bowl is this Sunday. Traditionally Sweetness and I get all nestled in, pop some popcorn and watch the game on his big TV. This year, I have to work on Super Bowl Sunday so; we’ve decided to have our Super Bowl sale on Saturday instead. This Saturday only (February 2^nd) all regularly priced fabric on the bolt will be 15% off. We have a lot of new stuff coming in soon and need to make room for it.
 

If you need something between regular business hours, please call. Sweetness is in the ‘man zone’ a lot during the day (making more fat quarter units, among other things). If he doesn’t answer, please leave a message on the machine so he can call you back.

We received a couple of 108” backings today. They are different than other 108” backings we’ve seen: there is a stencil stamped on the back so you can quilt your project just by following the lines. The stencil is water soluble so it washes out! These come in “white” and “natural”. We are the proud owners of a bolt of each. YIPPEE! I might start doing my own quilting now that we have this stuff!!  

If you haven’t noticed, I’m a little over the moon about jelly rolls. That was not always the case. I’m a recent convert. If it weren’t for the Jelly Roll 1600 quilts I’ve made, I might still be a jelly-roll-nay-sayer. Not anymore. Sometimes my mind runs wild with ideas of what can be done with just one jelly roll (especially if I use my handy dandy Strip Tube Ruler). I’ve ordered a boat load of patterns using jelly rolls. The pattern we’re most excited about getting (and making) is called “Line by Line”. Thanks to Melba for bringing this beautiful quilt to our attention. The boat load of patterns should be here tomorrow (Thursday). Which jelly roll should I use to make the first “Line by Line” sample?? Hummm……..decisions, decisions!

We’re getting very close to Sit and Sew. I know I keep saying that, but we’re really (really) close. Sweetness is feverishly working on the shelving units for the fat quarters. I really can’t complain: he gave up his entire Christmas break to build the wall, install insulation and sheet rock, put in the heating stove, the ceiling fan and the door to the ‘man zone’. He assures me he’ll have the fat quarter units finished and in place very soon. When we’re finished with construction, we’ll be selling most of the shelving units in the shop (plus some that are currently in the ‘man zone’). We’re getting very close to Sit and Sew…….very, very close!

That reminds me. Some of you have asked about “Sit and Sew”:  We will have an area in the shop totally dedicated to you and your projects (whether that’s quilting, sewing, embroidery, applique, knitting, crocheting or just reading a book). We don’t care WHAT you’re working on…..just bring it and hang out with other people doing the same thing. There’s no need to let us know in advance if you’re coming……..just show up and stay as long as you can. It’s totally free: kids-free, husband-free (yours, not mine!), Mother-In-Law free, laundry-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, smoke-free, alcohol-free, vacuuming-free, computer-free, television-free, internet-free, G.P.S.-free day. All day long. Sweetness said he might cook lunch for us now and then (his lasagna is to die for). He won’t cook every week so bring a sack lunch (or we can order pizza or whatever…). Think of it as an all-girl pajama party (during the day) doing what brings us joy with the added benefit of accomplishment! We’ve done something like this the past two years. It was an absolute blast. We’re getting very close. I’m so excited.

We still haven’t decided on what to do with the door to the ”man zone”. Melba suggested we could have another contest to determine the kind of quilt the door should be painted. Great idea. Details later.

white AND neutral backings/ Jelly Roll of the month

Guess what? The 108" backing (with the quilting line stencil) comes in white AND natural. There are bolts of each coming our way, hopefully to arrive tomorrow.   After a quick meeting with Cheryl at The Quilted Garden tomorrow, I'll try to post pictures on the blog, if they are here.  I'm so excited to start using both of these.  I'm not sure which one I'll use first!  

Sweetness and I have been thinking about starting a "Jelly Roll of the Month" club.  You would get one Moda jelly roll each month at a discounted price, every month.  You can quit at any time without any further obligation to the club.  We could mail your jelly roll to you or you could pick it up at the shop.  Is anyone interested???   

We're also throwing around a "half yard of the month" club and a "fat quarters of the month" club but haven't made any decisions.

Fun 108" backing

Yesterday was such a gorgeous day and unusually warm for January.  The stove didn't kick on very much but it was still nice to have heat!  The ceiling fan is installed. Thank you, Sweetness!

Plans for the "Scrappy Spring Shop Hop" have been finalized.  The previous post has all the info.  The shop owners are very excited.  We hope most of the blocks will be donated so there will be more than one quilt to give to charity.  I'm so excited!  Since I'm in charge of making the quilts, I gave myself a deadline of June 1st.  

I've ordered something a little different for the shop.  It's 108" backing with a stencil on the back so you can quilt it yourself.  The drawing is water soluble so it washes out (no one will ever know it was there).  You're secret is safe with me!  The down side, if there is one, is that it's only available in white.  PERIOD. No other colors.  Here's a picture of what it looks like.  It should be here by Saturday.
