Nola's son's graduation quilt

Nola was in the shop a couple of weeks ago to get fabric to make her son's graduation quilt.  She chose a Strip Tube Ruler pattern called "Tradewinds" and lots of Kansas Troubles fabrics!  She came back yesterday to show us her progress and get more fabric (she decided to make it king sized).  The blocks aren't sewn together but you get the idea of what it will look like.  Great job, Nola.  Your son will love it.

The "Chatty Crafters"

The "Chatty Crafters" held their May meeting at the shop yesterday.  I can't speak for them but Sweetness and I had a blast.  These ladies really know how to have fun and are so creative.  Everyone brought the project they were working on (quilting, spinning yarn, crocheting) and settled in for the day.  I'm not sure they got anything accomplished, we were very busy talking (and eating).  We hope they have their meeting here every month.  Thanks ladies for a great day with the "Chatty Crafters".

Celeste bought a couple of Moda scrap bags a week ago.  Here's the baby quilt she made for a friend using them.  It's so cute.  Great job, Celeste.

new dies from AccuQuilt

AccuQuilt is releasing 10 new Go! cutter dies in June.  We've pre-ordered nine of them.  Hopefully I can get the pictures transferred to the blog.  Here goes:

"Over the Rainbow" batik jelly rolls and matching charm packs

VA-VA-VA-VOOM!!!  We received new Moda batik jelly rolls and their matching charm packs this week. 

These are four different colorways of "Over the Rainbow" by Laundry Basket Quilts.  The colors are so vibrant.  Sweetness  mentioned he'd like to have one of each for his birthday..............really? Have I finally rubbed off on him?  Could he be a "Closet Quilter"? The colors really pop.  We really love these batiks.  We hope you do too!

This week's new stuff

We received some nifty stuff in the shop this week:  three new "Strip Tube Ruler" patterns, lighted seam rippers (batteries included), lighted tweezers with it's own magnifier (batteries also included) and 18 mm rotary cutters that slip over your finger.  I just love stuff that makes our quilting lives easier.

If you made a block from the Quilted Garden (in Aurora) during the Shop Hop, the top is finished and quilted (thanks to Cheryl W. for quilting it free of charge). I gave the top to Cheryl at The Quilted Garden this week so she can do the binding.  Can you find your block?

NEW HOURS: EVERY (E-V-E-R-Y) Saturday (closed May 25^th, August 31^st, December 28^th).

I was cranky most of last week because it was my birthday. I decided to “get over myself” and do something constructive for the shop instead! We are now the proud owners of two new Bernina sewing machines for you to use for "Sit and Sew”. They arrived the day after my birthday so Saturday was the first time we had them in the shop. I plugged them in to make sure everything works. It does! We’re very excited to be able to offer these for you to use. This means you can bring the projects you’re working on without lugging your sewing machine to the shop. These are not “top of the line” machines but are solid (and sturdy) and sew like a dream. I took pictures of our new additions to the shop and posted them on the blog.

Speaking of new stuff: We also received four different Moda batik jelly rolls (and their matching charm packs). YIPPEE!!! The first batik jelly rolls we had flew off the shelves so fast, Moda was out of stock when I tried to re-order. RATS! Anyway, since we can’t get more of those, we decided to get some different ones. These are “Over the Rainbow” by Laundry Basket Quilts. They came in four different color groups so you can pick the best colors for your project (Jelly Roll 1600’s would be gorgeous using these). I’m absolutely over the moon that we received the matching batik charm packs. I love batiks and these are especially yummy!

AccuQuilt is releasing ten new dies in June (we ordered nine of them). I’m the most excited about the “multiple circles” and “multiple strips” dies. The “multiple circles” die cuts 1 ½”, 1 ¾”, 2 ¼” and 2 ½” circles all on the same die. The “multiple strips” die cuts 1”, 1 ½” and 2” strips all on the same die. I’m asking Santa Claus for these (maybe as a late birthday present???). I hope he doesn’t make me wait until Christmas to use them once they’re here. We also ordered two different sized “rectangles” dies, a cute car die, a “Cat and Bat” die for Halloween, a couple of different sized triangles within squares and a half-rectangle within a triangle die. I realize these are hard to visualize so I’ll try to post their website pictures to the blog. Cross your fingers that I can figure out how to do that! We consider ourselves lucky to be able to pre-order these dies. I’ll let you know when they get here.......it'll be sometime in June.....

We had another couple of bolts of reproductions come in last week. YIPPEE! These are more of the “Feedsack” collection by Sara Morgan for Blue Hill Fabrics. One is purple the other is yellow. I’ve posted pictures of these on the blog also. 

Karen’s “Needle Turn Applique—Using the Back Basting Method” class on June 8^th is filling up. If you'd like to take this class, please let us know. The class fee is $10 and the "supplies list" is in the shop.

The “Chatty Crafters" will hold their monthly meeting at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday (May 11^th) at the shop. Feel free to drop in for their meeting. You might want to bring a folding chair just in case. If we have an overflow crowd, we might move outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Sweetness took me to lunch on my birthday last week. When I got back to work there were a dozen red roses on my desk. How’s that for timing? I took them to the shop Saturday so everyone could enjoy them too. I took a picture of them and posted it to the blog. What a sweetie pie I have. Thank you, Sweetness!

I made another version of “Cheater’s Flying Geese”. After seeing Pat’s on a solid background, I decided to use one of the “Marbles” charm packs with a “Pheasant Hill” mini charm. I did a much better job of centering the mini charms on the fabric this time. I needed something to use the new sewing machines for so, this worked out perfectly. Last weekend, I saw a table runner on the internet that was made using this technique. It was so pretty. It had three rows of “geese” (instead of two—like ours) and was much longer than ours are. My saving grace is nothing has been sewn together yet. I can still make it longer (or wider) if deemed necessary. Stay tuned…..…this saga continues.

Who knew we would have snow in Missouri in May? This is crazy. Sweetness took pictures of his truck covered with snow on May 3rd. I took a picture of my car snow covered on May 4th (before we opened for the day).   Pictures of each are on the blog.

“Thank You” to everyone who sent cards, called, emailed (or brought stuff) for my birthday. You made a horrible day much easier to endure with all your acts of kindness and generosity. Judy S. sent the following email: "Just remember every birthday you have means your still above ground and quilting. Now how much better can it get?????????? Enjoy your day Judy". That puts it all into perspective, doesn’t it?

This Sunday (May 12^th) is Mother’s Day. In honor of Mom’s special day, all fat quarters will be $2.50 each (this Saturday only). Don’t forget: we have gift certificates. They make great gifts for Mom on her special day too.

If you need anything between business hours, please call. Sweetness has finals next week and will be more than happy to get out of the house for a while!

A dozen red roses

Sweetness took me to lunch for my birthday.  When we got back, there was a dozen red roses on my desk.  How's that for timing?  What a sweetie!  I brought them to the shop yesterday for everyone to enjoy too.

More Feedsack fabric

We received a couple of bolts of reproductions last week.  These are from the "Feedsack" collection by Sara Morgan for Blue Hill Fabrics.  The yellow flowers on the purple fabric really pop.  The yellow print is a companion to another fabric from this line we received a couple of weeks ago.  Yummy!

Two new additions to the shop!

Last Thursday was my birthday.  I usually get a little cranky the week leading up it.  This year wasn't any different!  I decided to quit feeling sorry for myself and do something constructive for the shop instead.  Sweetness and I decided to buy a couple of Bernina sewing machines for you to use for "Sit and Sew".  This enables you to bring the project you're working on without lugging your sewing machine to the shop.  These machines are not the top of the line but are real work horses.  They were delivered the day after my birthday so yesterday was the first day they were in the shop.  We're so excited to be able to offer these for our customers to use.  We hope you enjoy them.  

Shannon's Tote bag

Shannon was in the shop yesterday morning.  She bought a charm pack of "Paint Box" and some "Warm and Natural" batting.  She went home and made this tote for her M-I-L for Mother's Day before we closed for the day.  That's fast!  The tote is so cute, we're sure her M-I-L will love it.  Great job, Shannon!  

Snow in May!

Sweetness had snow on his truck....on May 3rd....in Missouri.  We had another snow on the 4th.  Good grief.  

Pat's (Cheater's) "Flying Geese"

These are the (Cheater's) "Flying Geese" Pat made last Saturday.  She used part of a charm pack and part of a mini charm pack.  The charm pack is "Marbles Warm" and the mini charm is called  "Paris Flea Market" by 3 Sisters, all by Moda.  Pat did a wonderful job of matching the colors.  The last picture is my attempt at using a "Pheasant Hill" charm pack and the matching mini charm.  I think I like Pat's geese better!

Robin's flannel rag quilts

Robin made two flannel "rag" quilts as baby gifts.  The blocks were cut using the Go! cutter and 8 1/2" rag die.  After sewing the blocks together, just throw the quilts in the washing machine and dryer to get the 'rag' affect.  What a great baby gift.  

Robin's daughter and husband are holding her masterpieces.  Great job, Robin!  Keep up the good work! 

(Cousin) Susan's Jelly Roll 1600 quilts

(Cousin) Susan was here in March for the Shop Hop. She went home with a loaner sewing machine, some quilting supplies and a LOT of scraps from the totes!  She's made four Jelly Roll 1600 quilts since then.  The first two pictures are two of the tops she made, the last two pictures are their backs.  I love the 'scrappy' look of the last picture.  I'm not sure if I like the front or their backs better!  Great job, Susan!

"Paint Box" precuts by Laundry Basket Quilts

"Paint Box" layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls.  These are by Laundry Basket Quilts for Moda.  I love this line. It reminds me of spring!  Yummy!
